Operation Theatre Technician

An operation theatre technician, also known as a surgical technologist or operating

room assistant, is a healthcare professional who works closely with surgeons and other

members of the surgical team to assist with patient care and support during surgical

procedures. Operation theatre technicians play a crucial role in ensuring that surgeries

are performed safely and efficiently.

Operation theatre technicians typically work in hospitals and other healthcare facilities,

and may work with a variety of surgical specialties, including general surgery,

orthopedics, and cardiology. They may also work with specialized equipment, such as

Roles of an Operation Theatre Technician:

• Preparing the operating room for surgery by sterilizing equipment and setting up instruments and supplies.
• Assisting the surgeon during the procedure by handing those instruments and supplies as needed.
• Maintaining a sterile field during the surgery by constantly monitoring for contamination and sterilizing any objects that become contaminated.
• Monitoring the patient's vital signs and alerting the surgical team to any changes.
• Providing patient care before and after surgery, including taking vital signs, preparing the patient for surgery, and helping with post-operative care.
• Keeping track of surgical instruments and supplies, ordering and restocking as needed.
• Maintaining and troubleshooting medical equipment as needed.
• Participating in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay up-to-date on the latest technology and techniques in the field.
• Adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines, including using protective gear and following infection control protocols.

The job of an OT is very attractive and commands a high salary. A successful candidate can expect to earn around Rs. 60,000 in India. If a candidate is applying to a job in foreign countries, such as USA or UK, the remuneration is much higher than it is in India.

In India a fresher OTT can earn between Rs 10000 to Rs 20000 per month by joining a lab or a hospital. However an experienced OTT salary can vary between Rs 30000 and Rs 40000 per month.
