Optometry Technician

An optometry technician, also known as an ophthalmic technician or optometric assistant, is a healthcare professional who works in an optometry or ophthalmology practice to support optometrists and ophthalmologists in the delivery of eye care services. Optometry technicians typically have a background in healthcare and may have completed a vocational training program or earned a certificate or associate degree in optometry technology. Optometry technicians perform a variety of tasks to support optometrists and ophthalmologists in the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of eye conditions.

 

Roles of an Optometry Technician:

• Gathering patient medical history and performing basic eye exams, such as measuring visual acuity and checking for signs of eye disease
• Assisting in the administration of eye medications and treatments
• Preparing and sterilizing equipment for use in eye exams and procedures
• Maintaining patient records and scheduling appointments
• Ordering and maintaining supplies
• Providing patient education on eye care and eyewear options

Opticians with a minimum of 5 years of experience can expect to earn between 12 lakh and 15 lakh a year.
